Rumour: Sergio Set To Snub Blues

Real Madrid midfielder Sergio Canales has told a Spanish newspaper that he would prefer to stay in his homeland, an admission that is set to disappoint a host of Premier League clubs, including Everton.

The Spaniard, 20, was a reported target for Everton, Aston Villa and QPR, but quotes that have appeared in Spanish newspaper As suggest that the player is unlikely to move abroad.

Canales said: "I would prefer to stay in Spain. I want to get as many minutes as possible and if it isn't at Real Madrid it will be with another club."

La Liga sides Villarreal and Sevilla are both said to be interested in a loan move for Canales - who is contracted at the Bernabeu until 2016 - but Madrid are unwilling to let the player join a rival club.

Real Madrid signed Canales from Racing Santander last Summer for 6 million Euros prior to the arrival of Jose Mourinho. In his debut season Canales was only played 10 times.
