Rumour: Everton Consider Move For Wantaway Marseille Midfielder Gonzalez

According to The Mirror, Everton are considering a move for Marseille star Lucho Gonzalez, after the player made it known that he wanted to quit French football.

The Argentine, 30, has been told he is no longer part of coach Didier Deschamps' plans and both parties have agreed he can leave. Spanish side Malaga have made a move for Gonzalez already this Summer, but talks are reported to have broken down.

Gonzalez signed for Marseille from Porto in 2009, for a fee of around £15 million. In May he was linked with a move to Serie A giants Roma, but the player quashed the rumours, saying: "At no time has it left my mouth that I wanted to leave or that I didn't feel good here. I have a contract with OM until 2013 and the people at the club seem happy with me."

However, Marseille President Jean-Claude Dassier announced at the end of the season that Gonzalez would be leaving the club. Marseille have debts of around 35 million Euros.

StickyToffee Verdict: A quality player but should we blow what precious little money we have on a 30-year-old?
