Duffy In Ireland U21 Squad

Everton defender Shane Duffy has been named in the 18-man Republic of Ireland squad for the U21 friendly with Austria next week.

The game will take place at The Showgrounds, Sligo on Tuesday, August 9 (6:00pm). Manager Noel King has named an 18-man squad for the fixture that he hopes will serve as good preparation for a U21 Euro qualifier against Hungary in September.

"This game is an important preparation game for us ahead of our opening qualifying game against Hungary in Sligo on September 1. Every friendly match we play is about looking at players to see if they can help strengthen the team for the competitive matches.

"Austria are Hungary's neighbours so will have some similarities in their approach to the game. It would be fantastic if we could qualify for the finals in Israel 2013 but there is a long journey with a tough group to tackle."

The full Irish squad is: Ian McLoughlin (MK Dons), Aaron McCarey (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Enda Stevens (Shamrock Rovers), Aidan White (Leeds United), Richie Towell (Celtic), Shane Duffy (Everton), Gavin Gunning (Blackburn Rovers), Rob Kiernan (Wigan Athletic), Niall Canavan (Scunthorpe United), Adam Barton (Preston North End), Jeff Hendrick (Derby County), Conor Clifford (Chelsea), Mark Connolly (Bolton Wanderers), Daniel Kearns Dundalk), Aaron Doran (Inverness Caledonian Thistle), Joe Mason (Cardiff City), Sean Scannell (Crystal Palace), Robert Brady (Manchester United - on loan at Hull City).
