International Round-up: Mustafi, Gueye and Vellios

A trio of young Evertonians were in international action tonight and all ended up victorious.

German defender Shkodran Mustafi (above) helped his U-19 side to a 5-0 win over minnows Macedonia in Antalya, Turkey. The Germans dominated the match, with the goals coming from Moritz Leitner (3) of Borussia Dortmund and Shawn Parker (2) of FSV Mainz. Managed by a certain Christian Ziege, the squad also included a right-back from the other side of Stanley Park, Liverpool's Stephen Sama.

The match was an 'elite round' fixture. In this round, the 28 sides that progressed from an earlier qualifying round compete in seven mini-tournament groups of four. The groups winners then join the hosts in the finals. Having already beaten Hungary 3-0, Mustafi's Germany sit top of group 7 going into their next fixture, which is against Turkey on June 5th.

Striker Apostolos Vellios was also in action with his Greece U-21 side beating Bulgaria 2-1. Greece took the lead in the 6th minute through Olympiakos winger Aristides Soiledis, Bulgaria equalised on 64 through CSKA Sofia's Alexsandar Tonev and then the Greek winner was scored in the 71st minute by Udinese's Thanasis Karagounis.

Magaye Gueye helped the French U-21s to a 1-0 win over Serbia. The goal came after 15 minutes from Henri Saivet, of French Ligue 2 side Angers. Everton forward Gueye replaced the goalscorer on 62 minutes and played the final half hour of the friendly victory.
