Howard's USA beat Canada in Gold Cup

Tim Howard kept a clean sheet as the USA prevailed in their first Gold Cup fixture against Canada last night. The goals came from Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey, but the USA had their 'keeper to thank after a string of impressive saves kept the score at 2-0.

The Americans took the lead after 15 minutes when Jozy Altidore fired a shot underneath the Canadian 'keeper, before Clint Dempsey slid in to get on the end of an Altidore cross and make it 2-0 just after the hour mark.

At 2-0 and with the game seemingly in the bag, the US performance appeared to falter. Coach Bob Bradley had Tim Howard to thank for keeping them ahead after he made a few world-class saves. The victory leaves the USA top of Group C ahead of their second fixture, against Panama on June 11th.
