Wales led 2-0 thanks to a brace from Cardiff City's Gethyn Hill, but Armenia scored in the dying embers of the game to complete a 3-2 comeback and condemn the Welsh to defeat.
Everton's Gethin Jones started in midfield for Wales but was withdrawn after 22 minutes - presumably through injury. Jake Eyre was a 67th minute substitute, coming on in place of Wrexham's Jordan Evans.
Wales are due to face Lithuania (19th October) before a tough test against Serbia (22nd October).
